Re-Admission and Doctors....by Harry Ward
18/09/2004

Loram

Sometimes I just can't be bothered reading the changing rules and regulations that blight our sport but I've noticed some worrying trends lately

I recently went to a meeting at Peterborough against Arena Essex and the meeting was abandoned without a wheel being turned. I was looking in my diary to check if I could get back there for one of the next three meetings when I read the re-admission ticket that said re-entry only for the rerun of this meeting. Upon investigation Peterborough are not the only track to do this. In the meantime Ronnie Russell let me use the ticket at Arena. What has happened to re admission tickets allowing entry into the next three meetings?

Equally worrying is the trend of no Track Doctor. Doctors are now replaced by Paramedics. When Mark Loram injured his arm last season the meeting was abandoned due to the Paramedic staying with Mark at the hospital. This also happened at Belle Vue earlier this season with Scott Robson's injury and again at Wimbledon against Rye House the other week. Having also been present at Eastbourne when David Norris was injured a County Ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital by them allowing the meeting to continue. Are Doctors considered by Promoters to be too expensive?

  • Paul Sturman:

"Harry Ward should write to the Peterborough management and tell them what he thinks about their re-admission regulations.

Even the next three meetings plus re-run needs to be improved. This was introduced years ago when fans travelled just a few miles to their local track. Nowadays people drive miles to meetings and due to shift work and other commitments it can be difficult to get back. I recently emailed the BSPA to suggest improving the rules to next five plus re-run. Surprise, surprise, no reply was forthcoming.

I would suggest to anyone having difficulty re-using their ticket to phone or write to the team manager or promoter and explain the reason, particularly if the meeting is called off before any heats are run.

Myself and my family have decided that we never travel to a meeting unless there is an unequivocal forecast of dry weather, we miss some speedway, the tracks miss our admission money. That's the way it is until the re-admission regs. are improved."
