Friends of Speedway

An Introduction to Friends of Speedway

Friends of Speedway are an unofficial international supporters' club, which is run by the fans, for the fans. We produce a quarterly publication, the Voice, which is compiled by contributors with no obligation towards anything other than our favourite sport. This, of course, means that articles are not always that complimentary or favourable to the hierarchy of the organising bodies.

We regularly contact the press and TV companies and badger them for more coverage of speedway racing, with some notable success and were the force behind the awarding of an MBE to former World Champion Peter Collins a while ago.

Our activities are solely aimed at benefiting the sport and we are strictly a non-profit making organisation. Our membership fee includes four issues of the Voice, which is fast becoming a collectors' item. Any surplus income is ploughed back into speedway racing in one form or another. 2007 saw a generous donation to the under-15s youth racing.

We also support the new Speedway Museum at Paradise Wildlife Park, Broxbourne, Hertfordshire and are actively looking for volunteers to help with the day-to-day running of this auspicious enterprise.

As a result of our letter to Speedway Star in 2006 suggesting a National Referendum on the Tactical Ride Rule, they saw fit to have a Reader's Poll which showed a resounding NO for this rule. The vote was 1,161 against and a mere 94 in favour.

To become a member and receive your associated editions of the Voice or to receive more information, please send your cheque or postal order for £10 (or Euros in cash) made payable to Friends of Speedway to:
