A Matter of Opinion....Andy Taylor....23/05/2003

Andy has been following the sport since he was in short pants. Boston are his side.

Howe
Nicholls

What effect will the recent local council elections have on the prospects of a new track in Boston ?

Well the tories who have been the opposition are now minus two councillors, the incoming councillors have pledged to support the return of the 'cudas and we only lost the vote by two last time. That theoretically gives us the numbers. I believe that Steve Lambert's next planning application is going to include some amendments so who knows ? We might even get an even larger majority supporting the sports return.

Mildenhall are now tracking Ben Howe the former England international, what are your thoughts on this ?

Well Ben is without a track and it is within the rules to allow him to ride. Although the League is supposed to be aimed at young and/or less experienced riders is it fair that we deny unemployed riders the chance to keep themselves fit for a return to higher league racing ? Also Mildenhall being an ambitious club and a stand alone one, have greater needs to win matches than some of the other teams who concentrate on developing talent.

Which newcomers have impressed you most so far this season ?

If you are talking about riders new to the premier or elite leagues then, Edward Kennett is the rider that stands out. Darren Mallett is also now begining to score some points in the premier despite having to ride as a second string and having a conference average of lesss than 5.00 from last year.

The Middlesbrough junior side have been banned from participating in friendlies at anywhere except for Hull's Craven Park. Can you see any justification for this ?

Absolutely not, especially as there is now some hope that we may see their return to league racing in the not too distant future. What puzzles me is Scunthorpe are allowed to race against us as well as at Craven Park and their situation is almost identical to that of Boro's. By allowing the Bears to ride elsewhere helps keep the fans of Middlesbrough interested.

Who will the top Brit in this year's Grand Prix series and why ?

Scott Nicholls, he has improved greatly over the last couple of years and is developing from a good rider to a great rider. Mark Loram will strugggle with his injury and Lee Richardson, although a great prospect will be busy learning the ropes this year.
