Having seen the success of other defunct tracks SC's I am interested in reviving interest in the Crusaders and would like to be able to gauge the level of interest out there and information would be gratefully received.

I am looking for photos from the 1973 World Final which was held at the Slaski stadium, Chorzow, Poland. If anyone has anything of interest, especially Heats 2, 8, 11, 14, 17 and the run off between Mauger and Szczakiel then maybe You could post them on Speedway Plus or email scans to myself at adavebush@aol.com - I would be very grateful. Colour photos seem to be extremely rare, although a few exist.

A Hackney fan since 1968, I was discussing with my mates the lack of viewing facilities at certain tracks unless you got there early and we got onto Sheffield. Preferring to stand outside to view my speedway and having visited Sheffield about a dozen times between 1972 and 1979 I stated although it looked safe enough the back straight had never been opened. My mate disputed this and reckoned it had been opened when he visited there during that period. I know it was opened for the 2002 World Cup and again for the 2005 Sean Wilson 20th Anniversary meeting but was not open the last time I paid a visit there for the 2007 Play-off final against Rye House. Can any long standing Sheffield fan shed any light on this.

I am looking for information regarding this Ivan Mauger painting by Keith Fretwell. I would like to know how the painting came about, it has been said that it was used to promote the opening of Barrow Speedway? I would also like to know more about the artist Keith Fretwell, I have looked on the internet but found nothing. I have also emailed Ivan but he told me very little except the painting depicts Ivan at a individual meeting at Leicester ( Golden Gauntlets ? ) in 1970 / 1971. I have 2 of these posters. It was originally given away as a centre page poster in Motor Cycle News around 1971 / 1972 but you could also buy it as a print from Ivan's company ( project - a sport ) around 1975 / 1976. I found some pictures of Ivan on xtremesport testing a bike at Costa Mesa wearing the same leathers and on the same bike! So the painting looks like Costa Mesa not Leicester! The bike was owned by Cary Cotterman by the way.

Provincal League Championship Belle Vue 1964/1965

Can any tell me whom the other four riders other than the great George Hunter {Monarchs} was in the run off for third place as I seem to remember there was five riders in that run off. I think it was the year Norman Storer was with the Long Eaton side the Archers. As a life long speeedway supporter since 1952 I can say this today's speedway in my opinion is not a patch on what it used to be, I realise that time moves on but I still long for the roar off the 500 J A P with no silencer no dirt shield I will say this when it gets dark and we are under the lights speedway comes alive for me.

During my time with Wimbledon I did a lot of promotional work for various advertising campaigns, the more famous of which was the Durex Test Rider video which went out on the cinemas with the ‘On Any Sunday 2’, Roger Johns and I spent best part of a day with cameras strapped to various parts or anatomy which they used as the intro into the film.

They also had me ride with a red helmet colour with Durex on, body colour with Durex emblazoned upon it, Which they used for their hoarding advertising, in some cases it was a composite advert which had a power boat, single seater car and the speedway rider......that’s me on it !!!!

Does anyone still have any of the posters and or the Test Rider video ?????

I am working on a new book about Ivan Mauger called The Man Behind The Myth. It is designed to show what Ivan is like as a person because we all know what he is like as a speedway rider.

I am contacting as many speedway people as possible from World Champions to fans on the terraces to ask for any stories/anecdotes/memories/experiences which they may have had to do with Ivan on or off the speedway track.

Ivan knows what I am doing and has co-operated with contacts etc. The deal is that he will not be able to alter or censor what I write.

The book is not a eulogy so comments can be favourable but do not have to be. Comments can be as long or short as you like. There is no rush, but it would be great to hear from anyone. Pictures as well would be welcome and would be returned.

I have been working on a game of my own for a year now, the game been more of a model with wrap-around-stadium. Yet I would hate to clash my idea with that of this revered Speedway historian whose work I hold in high esteem.

I am a speedway badge collector, and include a number of re-makes in my collection. This week my Wife found a badge at a sale in Cornwall. It is of Hall Green, Birmingham (pre-war track), and the design has been the subject of a re-make (which I have). However, my wifes badge is 'gold' whereas the re-make is 'silver', the eagle, whose wings extend beyond the circular badge, is much better modelled than the re-make, and this one has a makers name, Brimingham Medal Co. on the rear. I suspect that it is the real thing - can anyone throw some light please?

Sounds implausible I know but could anyone shed any further light on the history of speedway in the town?

While searching on google earth recently, I came across what looks like the shape of a track on the Holt Road in Hevingham. I know the track was located on that road but don`t know exactly where. The one I have spotted is on land between the Marsham Arms and the Grange farm house. Can anyone confirm this is the site of the doomed track?

I am trying to find information about speedway around the 1930's - in particular any information about George Basil Mortimer, usually known as Basil. Whilst tracing my family tree recently I learnt he was my grandfather and was apparently well known on the speedway circuit around the 1930's. It would be good to hear about this time in his life if any one should have any information.

As a compulsive collector I decided to collect something small, that wouldn't take up too much room, so I added club badges to programmes and other things (such as race jackets).

I now have nearly all the badges I know of and wanted (either originals or remakes I hasten to add).

One badge crops up from time to time, and I wonder if any reader can throw some light. It is the Forest flyers' badge, oval, and yellow with a WW2 heavy bomber shown.

Where (if anywhere) did they ride, and when?

I am 36 but I can remember my grandfather being the biggest aces fan on the planet. He lived around the corner and drank in The Aces. I have inherited a signed Peter Collins painting which I treasure. I believe he was given it when the aces stripped all speedway stuff out of the vault. I can even remember the gold bike !

My granddad took me and my day to every home fixture and his hero was Ivan Mauger (gold bike) mine was Sam Ermolenko.

My dad worked for Manchester Garages which used to be near St Marys hospital. MG had a contract for removing the stockcars from the track during the intervals at Hyde road. I recall being the only 10 year old kid to be allowed in the pits in the breakdown truck it was great, happy days.

I remember when they were knocking down Hyde road we went for a look and got offered the Aces sign on the pit wall we declined (what a mistake looking back !!! )

Anyway I was wondering if you know anyone / or a website that might have old pictures of the glory days in the Aces pub (as it was like the modern day footballers players lounge) or have any old pictures of Belle Vue stock cars in the hope my grandfather / father and I are in any of the pictures ?

Ivan Blacka - Nottingham Outlaws - 1980
Ivan rode 15 meetings for the Outlaws in 1980 on loan from Wolverhampton. He is currently over in this country and I have had the great pleasure of talking to him about his Speedway career (which also involved Edinburgh Monarchs and, briefly Stoke Potters) as part of a project I am working on. He is desperate to find a photo with him either riding or in portrait with the Outlaws; he has coverage of his spells with the other teams. If the readership could turn up just one photograph, I am sure he would be absolutely "over the moon." There must be at least one photograph out there!
